The Republicans have long held that entitlement programs are wrought with fraud. The misconception has grown so much that something coming from the overwhelming minority affects those that truly do need the services. The law so clearly targets the true poor, minorities and marginalized...not to mention those dealing with mental health issues but not deemed disabled. Getting time off from work alone for appointments, getting a job that isn't part time or doesn't come with benefits serves no purpose....the GOP just doesn't "get it."
Part of me thinks the conversation is really about universal health care. But its more than that. This law is mean spirited and cruel.
My blog has primarily served as a look into my own mental and physical health issues. I've walked you through the disability process, therapy and psychiatry along with general health. I've tried to expose the flaws in the system. I've worked very hard on my own recovery and healing and have finally, after 3-4 years, felt good about me.
I live in a state that did not take Medicaid Expansion. The long and short of that is in states that accepted expansion, a family of 4 could roughly make $32k/year and maintain coverage- the working poor. States that did not accept it set their own standards.
In my state, Kansas, they only allow parents of children to even be eligible as adults. We are only allowed an income of $768/month to stay insured. That is not a misprint and can be googled. If our income exceeds that we lose our coverage. That would be disastrous.
So...if KS adopts the plan, and because I am not disabled and only in the application process I no longer "qualify" They can make me go to work, lose my insurance, if I exceed $1200/month I no longer qualify for disability.
So to live....and I mean breathe, walk and see my kids grow up...I must either be found disabled before the law takes effect, find a job that pays well and provides insurance. The job must accept what has been deemed as partially disabled already. I'm still waiting on test results and future scheduled tests. There's been some concern over some recent tests....
It's not a hand out. I worked for 30 years and paid into the system. For what? Those that believe in this law...I hope you are never in my (or millions of others) situation. I want to work...let me work my way up and you wont have to feel like I'm getting a hand "out"
Be my brother, cast aside your political beliefs. Give me a hand up man...thats what we all want.
